W latach 1988–1994 studiował na Uniwersytecie Ostrawskim. Od 2003 roku pracuje jako asystent w Pracowni Malarstwa na Wydziale Sztuki na Uniwersytecie Ostrawskim. Obecnie mieszka i pracuje w Ostrawie i w Prostřední Bečvie. Jego malarstwo jest niepozorne i bezpretensjonalne. Portretuje zwykłe rzeczy wokół nas – opony, zwierzęta domowe, plecak, chleb, kubki itp. Celem jego pracy nie jest skupianie się na szczegółowym poznaniu widzianego przedmiotu, ale interesuje go kształt, powierzchnia, miejsce w przestrzeni, które zajmuje, cechy, które wydają się oczywiste, a których zwykle nie dostrzegamy i nie są dla nas atrakcyjne. Sumec zatrzymuje, unieruchamia i absolutyzuje przedmioty. Tworzy z nich ogólne znaky, zasady wizualnego doświadczenia.

He studied at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava between 1988 and 1994. Since 2003 he has been working as an assistant at the Studio of Painting at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava. He currently lives and works in Ostrava and in Prostřední Bečva. His paintings are inconspicuous and unpretentious. He portrays ordinary things around us – tires, pets, backpack, bread, mugs and more. The aim of his detailed study is not the viewed objects, but he is interested in the shape, surface and place they occupy in space. He is also interested in the qualities that are self-evident, which we do not normally deal with, do not see and are not attractive to us. Sumec stops, immobilizes and absolutises the objects. Then he recreates them into general signs, principles of visual experience.
